Economic cooperation

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1992, Luxembourg has been a key economic partner of Belarus in the EU.

In October 2017, Luxembourg hosted the Belarusian International Economic Forum “Belarus. Invest in tomorrow”, attended by over 200 business representatives and officials from Belarus, Luxembourg, Belgium, France, Germany, and other countries. The choice of venue was driven by Luxembourg's growing importance as one of the EU's leading financial centers in the aftermath of Brexit.

Since 2021, trade in goods and services between Belarus and Luxembourg has shown a steady decline. Due to the introduction of the EU restrictive measures that violate international law, supplies of a number of Belarusian goods to Luxembourg (metal products, chemicals, wood products, optics, etc.), which were essential for its competitiveness, have ceased.

Currently, economic cooperation with Luxembourg is limited. Along with direct EU sanctions restrictions, trade cooperation is also hampered by barriers in supply logistics and payments.

At the initiative of the Luxembourg side, cooperation between the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce has been suspended. The Belgian-Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce and Industry for Belarus and Russia, which is an important element in developing direct contacts between businessmen, operates on a limited basis.
