Screening of the film “In August 44…” in Brussels

12.09.2024

On September 11, 2024, the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Brussels screened the Belarusian feature film “In August 44…”.
Charge d'Affaires of Belarus in Belgium Ekaterina Shatokhina noted in her speech that this film is extremely relevant, since in 2024 Belarus celebrates the 80th anniversary of Operation Bagration, the largest military operation during which the country's territory was completely liberated from invaders. She emphasized the country's contribution to the victory over fascism:
“Belarus took the first blow in World War II and suffered significant losses. On Belarusian soil, 209 out of 270 cities were destroyed. On the territory of Belarus, the fascists carried out more than 140 punitive operations, completely or partially destroying 5,454 villages, more than 260 death camps and places of mass extermination of people were created. But at the same time, Belarus became a country where the largest partisan and underground resistance movement in Europe operated.”

Ekaterina Shatokhina also noted that the screening of the film is taking place on the eve of a significant state holiday — National Unity Day, which is dedicated to the unification of Belarus on September 17, 1939.
