The introduction of a temporary visa-free regime for citizens of 35 European countries
26.07.2024In order to further demonstrate the openness and peacefulness of the Republic of Belarus, commitment to the principles of good neighborliness, as well as to simplify interpersonal contacts and improve freedom of movement, the President of the Republic of Belarus has decided to establish a procedure for temporary visa-free entry, exit and stay in the Republic of Belarus for citizens of 35 European countries.
Visa-free entry into the Republic of Belarus, exit from the Republic of Belarus is carried out through all road and rail international checkpoints across the State Border of the Republic of Belarus with valid documents for travel abroad for a period of no more than thirty days from the date of entry. This procedure is valid from 8.00 on July 19, 2024 to December 31, 2024 inclusive. The number of days of stay in Belarus in a visa-free regime should not exceed 90 days in a calendar year.
The current regime of visa-free entry through air checkpoints remains unchanged.
When planning your trip, please consider the following:
1. Foreign citizens who plan to stay in the Republic of Belarus for more than 30 days during a trip or more than 90 days in a calendar year must obtain an entry visa — a short-term visa for up to 90 days of stay or a long-term visa for 1 to 5 years. A long-term visa gives the right to stay for up to 90 days during one trip or 90 days within 180 days. It is eligible for natives of Belarus, persons with close relatives in the Republic of Belarus, family members of a citizen of the Republic of Belarus, owners of real estate in Belarus and their family members, as well as some other categories of citizens. The procedure for obtaining visas is indicated on the Embassy website.
2. Foreigners who arrived in the territory of the Republic of Belarus without a visa cannot travel to the Russian Federation. If a foreigner intends to leave the Republic of Belarus for the Russian Federation by plane, he/she must obtain a transit or entry Belarusian visa at the Embassy in advance, even if he/she will be staying in the Republic of Belarus for less than 30 days.
3. Foreign citizens who are traveling to the Republic of Belarus to study or work, or who intend to apply for a temporary residence permit, must obtain an appropriate entry visa (guest, business, study or work) at the Embassy or Consulate General in advance.
4. The above-mentioned visa-free entry procedure does not apply to holders of diplomatic, service, special and equivalent passports.
5. Citizens of the Republic of Belarus who also have other citizenship must enter the Republic of Belarus only with a passport of a citizen of the Republic of Belarus. This also applies to minors. If a child was born outside the Republic of Belarus and one of his/her parents is a citizen of Belarus, then the child has citizenship of the Republic of Belarus from birth. In the absence of a Belarusian passport, he can enter the Republic of Belarus only after receiving a certificate of return to the Republic of Belarus from the Embassy.
6. In case of visa-free entry, it is still necessary to comply with the procedure for compulsory medical insurance of foreign citizens (indicated on the Embassy website).
7. Foreign citizens who entered the Republic of Belarus before July 19, 2024 on a visa must leave the country before the expiration of the visa (the period of stay indicated in the visa).
