Statement of the Council of the Republic in connection with the adoption of the resolution on Belarus by the European Parliament

29.03.2023

The Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus resolutely condemns the adoption by the European Parliament of yet another odious resolution on Belarus and categorically rejects all assessments of the situation in our country without exception. We consider this to be nothing but blatant interference in the internal affairs of our sovereign and independent State and violation of the inalienable right of the Belarusian people to determine their own destiny.

The decision approved by the European Parliament directly contradicts the Charter of the United Nations and the principles of international law. Through pressure on our country in political forums, sanctions blackmail, and information and psychological terror, a misanthropic policy bordering on extreme nationalism is being promoted.

The inconsistency and illegitimacy of the decisions made on the basis of blatant lies and dirt poured on Belarus by fugitive traitors, who cynically trade on national security and the well-being of our country and people, is obvious. Any collaboration with these criminals shows absolute ignorance of the real life in Belarus and is doomed to failure.

We do not need any moral teachings from the outside — we know ourselves how to live. Belarus follows steadily the path of peace, good-neighbourliness and creation. Our country develops on the basis of the laws, which fully meet the vital interests of the Belarusian people, while paying respect for all those who are open to a constructive dialogue with us, and we have the right to expect the same from them.

We state with confidence that the desire of Western functionaries to cover up their miscalculations and mistakes in governing their countries is counterproductive and futile. The European public's moment of truth is inevitable! Under the present circumstances, the once prosperous Europe is marred with serious social and economic problems, and its people are taking to the streets to defend their rights and prevent the European continent from sliding into a full-scale war.

Everything that is happening in the world today is an echo of revanchist politics. Because of the ambitions of the proponents of this policy, the humanity faces unprecedented challenges of global instability and a continuing period of uncertainty.

We urge the parliamentary structures, the United Nations, the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the International Labor Organization and other international organizations, the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and the UN Human Rights Council to disregard the politicized and untenable opinion of the European Parliament with respect to Belarus and to promote truly friendly relations and cooperation between the states.
The Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus reaffirms its strong determination to oppose any attempts of encroaching on the sovereignty and independence of Belarus, interfering in its internal affairs, and exerting political, economic or other pressure on our country.

No one but the Belarusian people have the right to decide how to live, how to develop, what laws are to be in our native land!
