Chairman of the State Customs Committee of Belarus took part in the sessions of WCO Council

On June 22–24, 2023, the 141/142 sessions of the main body the World Customs Organization (WCO), the Council, were held at the headquarters of the Organization in Brussels.

The Chairman of the State Customs Committee of the Republic of Belarus Mr. Vladimir Orlovsky took part in the sessions.

The Council approved a number of recommendations on the improvement of the work of customs services, the reports of the Secretary General and the heads of the WCO main working bodies were heard, and the key issues of the Organization's activities were discussed.

During the session discussions, the Belarusian delegation brought a clear and well-reasoned position of our country, the essence of which is to prevent the politicization of the activities of the World Customs Organization.

“The Customs Service of Belarus is convinced that the World Customs Organization should maintain the status of a purely professional platform for dialogue between customs administrations. This is fully consistent with the goals and objectives of the Organization,” said the Chairman of the State Customs Committee in his speech. He also presented an initiative to launch negotiations with the customs administrations of neighboring countries of the European Union in order to normalize the difficult situation with freight traffic and the movement of citizens at the common borders.

A series of bilateral meetings were held with the heads of customs services of foreign states, topical issues of customs cooperation were considered.
