A concert dedicated to the interweaving of the cultures of Belarus and Russia took place in Brussels

On December 8, 2023, the concert “Interweaving of Cultures: Belarus and Russia” took place at the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Brussels.

Natives of the two countries living in Belgium performed pieces by the Belarusian and Russian composers, as well as folk tunes.

Prof. Timur Sergeenya (piano), Prof. Liliya Umnova (violin) and Oksana Shpizeke (cymbals) were among the Belarusian musicians who performed at the event.

The heads of the diplomatic missions of Belarus and Russia in Brussels addressed the guests. The Charge d’Affaires of Belarus in Belgium Ekaterina Shatokhina noted in her welcoming remarks that the cultures of the two states are closely intertwined as for several centuries the Belarusian and Russian peoples, side by side, has been shaping the cultural code of the region, complementing and enriching each other. At the same time, they preserved their authenticity, identity and traditions.

Also, the visitors of the event were able to taste the gastronomic specialties of the two countries. The Charge d’Affaires of Belarus gave a master class on making the Belarusian traditional dish ‘draniki’ (potato pancakes).
