Memorial event to mark the 38th anniversary of the disaster at the Chernobyl NPP took place at the Embassy

On April 25, 2024, a memorial evening on the occasion of the 38th anniversary of the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant was held at the Embassy of Belarus in Belgium.

Representatives of the Belgian charitable organizations that provided support to children in the affected regions of Belarus were invited: OKiN, ARRET, Tsjernobylkinderen. The Embassy expressed its gratitude and appreciation for the many years of work and the assistance provided.

Chargé d’Affaires of Belarus in Belgium Ekaterina Shatokhina recalled that, in accordance with the decision of the UN General Assembly, April 26 was proclaimed the International Chernobyl Disaster Remembrance Day. The scale of pollution of the Belarusian territory and the state’s efforts to overcome the consequences were outlined.

A documentary about the impact of the Chernobyl disaster on Belarus was shown. The visitors got also acquainted with a thematic photo exhibition prepared by the Embassy on the anniversary of the tragedy.

In addition to the participants from the mentioned organizations, the event was attended by representatives of the diplomatic corps from the CIS countries in Brussels and the Belarusian diaspora in Belgium.
