Ambassador A.Mikhnevich meets with G.Bourgeois, Minister-President of Flanders

28.10.2016

On October 28, 2016, Ambassador of Belarus to Belgium Aleksandr Mikhnevich met with Minister-President of Flanders Geert Bourgeois.

A.Mikhnevich and G.Bourgeois discussed opportunities for development of trade and economic relations between Belarus and Flanders. They focussed in particular on a practical follow-up to the visit that a Belarusian delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister Anatoly Kalinin paid to Belgium on 18 – 20 October. This includes possible use of the ports in Ghent and Antwerp by Belarusian companies, construction of a “river-sea” port in Belarus on the basis of the relevant Flemish experience and participation of Belarus and Flanders in development of the Europe – Asia Silk Road infrastructure.

A.Mikhnevich made a number of proposals related to fostering twinning ties between cities in Belarus and Flanders and cooperation in the field of education, science and culture. G.Bourgeois welcomed the Belarusian initiatives and shared his ideas on the way ahead.

The sides noted the positive trends in relations between Belarus and the EU and exchanged views on the forthcoming meeting of the Belarus-EU Coordination group in Minsk in November.
