Telephone conversation of Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus and EU High Representative

On November 16, 2021 the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, Vladimir Makei, held a telephone conversation with the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy / Vice-President of the European Commission, Josep Borrell.

The sides discussed the issues related to the situation at the Belarus-EU border.

V.Makei briefed his interlocutor on the tightening of the migration regime in Belarus. Minister emphasized the serious efforts of the Belarusian side to provide migrants with humanitarian aid, including in cooperation with public and international organizations such as the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, the International Organization for Migration, the International Children's Fund, the Belarusian Red Cross and Crescent Society, and others.

The Foreign Minister reiterated Belarus' focus on the joint search for solutions to existing problems, including the early resolution of the migration crisis.

V.Makei emphasized Belarus’ principle position on rejection of sanctions as a policy tool towards a sovereign and independent state, which have negative consequences for both the bilateral relations and the regional stability and security in general.

The sides agreed to continue contacts between Belarus and the EU.
