Belarusian delegation holds negotiations on legal affairs in Belgian Foreign Ministry

On April 28, Brussels hosted negotiations on treaty and legal affairs between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus and the Federal Public Service of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation of the Kingdom of Belgium.

The delegation of Belarus was headed by Andrei Popkov, Director of the Legal Department of the Foreign Ministry. Paul Rietjens, Director General of the Legal Department of FPS of Foreign Affairs, led the Belgian delegation.

During the meeting the sides discussed a wide range of affairs related to the inventory of the legal base between Belarus and Belgium, including in the context of succession of the USSR's international treaties, cooperation within international organizations and general issues of international law.

The sides exchanged views on prospects for cooperation in the field of legal assistance in combating international crime in terms of Belarus' accession to the legal conventions of the Council of Europe. The possibilities for launching joint initiatives and organizing seminars for legal experts were also discussed.
