Belarus delegation takes part in EaP Ministerial Conference

Luxembourg, 18 October. A first Eastern Partnership Conference on Climate and Environment brought together sectoral ministers of the EU Member States and its Eastern Partners. The event was attended by a Belarusian delegation headed by Andrei Kovkhuto, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment.

At the plenary, the Minister presented Belarus’ position on addressing environmental challenges of local, regional and global scale. He spoke of the country’s contribution to international effort against climatic change and in support of “green economy”.

The participants adopted a final declaration aimed at intensified cooperation on environmental matters in the Eastern Partnership framework.

Andrei Kovkhuto met with European Commissioner of Environment Karmenu Vella. They looked at ways to bolster Belarus – EU cooperation on natural resources management and make best use of the EU financial assistance in this context.

The head of the delegation also had a brief exchange with European Commissioner on Neighbourhood Johannes Hahn and ministers of several Eastern Partners and EU Member States.
