STATEMENT OF THE PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVES OF THE CSTO MEMBER STATES TO NATO ON THE OCCASION OF THE NEXT ANNIVERSARY OF THE VICTORY IN THE GREAT PATRIOTIC WAR 1941 – 1945

We, CSTO Member States, pay tribute to the memory of dozens of millions of those who perished and were injured in the Great Patriotic War.

We treasure the contribution of the Allied Nations to the common Victory in World War II, that was achieved thanks to the decisive role of the former Soviet Union nations, who crushed the Wehrmacht’s main forces, and the contribution of other nations, who resisted the Nazi. We honour their feat and dedication.

From this historical experience the world has learned the danger of intolerance, discrimination, extremism and hatred on ethnic, racial and religious grounds. We believe that today all the states should fight against any manifestations of neo-Nazism, chauvinism, xenophobia, radical nationalism.

We strongly reject any attempts to reconsider the historic significance of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, distort the World War II outcome. We consider as unacceptable glorification of Nazism and militant nationalism.

The tragic lessons of the two global wars in the 20th century have proved a critical importance of preserving peace. We advocate addressing any conflict at any corner of our planet by only diplomatic non-military means. We oppose any new dividing lines in Europe and urge all international players to jointly work towards a world order based on observance of the principles of international law, equal and indivisible security for every state. We are confident that only by uniting our efforts the international community will be able to counter effectively challenges of the 21st century.
