AmbassadorA.Mikhnevich meets Head of the Government of Wallonia Willy Borsus

A working meeting between Ambassador of Belarus to Belgium A.Mikhnevich and Head of the Government of Wallonia Willy Borsus was held in Namur (Belgium) on June 19, 2018. The parties discussed a wide range of issues of bilateral cooperation in political, economic, social and cultural spheres.

Particularly, the sides highlighted progress in relations between Belarus and the European Union – the progress which has systematically been supported by Belgium, and in particular Wallonia, aiming at further strengthening of cooperation.

During the discussion of economic issues W.Borsus promised active participation of the Walloon  Government, the Chamber of Commerce and the Walloon Export and Investment Agency in the preparation and holding of the 3rd Belarus-European Economic Forum in Antwerp, Belgium, in spring 2019. The Head of the Government of Wallonia also accepted the invitation of A.Mikhnevich to visit the stand of Belarusian equipment at the largest regional agricultural exhibition, which will be held on 27-30 July 2018 in Libramont (Belgium).

The Ambassador of Belarus informed the interlocutor about the already existing positive experience of cooperation with the University of Mons and suggested establishing the same interaction with the University of Liège. The parties agreed that with the assistance of the Government of Wallonia necessary meetings will be organized in the coming months with the rectorate of the university in of Liège.

W.Borsus supported the proposal to use twinning as a tool for establishing business and cultural cooperation. He assured that in the near future he will send to the Embassy information about the cities of the region interested in establishing such relations with the cities of Belarus.

The Government of Wallonia will also consider and offer to the Belarusian side the events of the region, within which it will be appropriate to organize exhibitions of Belarusian artists as well as performances or concerts of Belarusian artists.

A.Mikhnevich and W.Borsus agreed to keep contacts open in order to solve issues of mutual interest of Belarus and Wallonia.
